To the woman in 30a

You seem like you’re very nice. You seem like the sort of person who could make anyone feel at home, regardless of whether you just met them, or you’ve been pals for decades. There’s a problem though.

Your extroversion and interest in making friends with everyone isn’t welcome right now. We’ve been in the air for more than two hours, dinner has come and gone, and people are trying to sleep. I AM TRYING TO SLEEP! Yet, with the exception of the few moments your mouth was busy with food, you have not stopped talking. You don’t appear to realise that others, whether seats or rows away, don’t need to hear your stories. In fact, most would appreciate some quiet so that they can sleep. Though you may not need to, some of us have intensive days planned for when we land, which means that sleep is essential.

So, in the kindest terms possible, would you please shut up!

I wrote this during a long flight…I didn’t have the guts to actually talk to her, rather I preferred to stew for a while before eventually dozing off.
